Last August, there was an earthquake in Louisa County Virginia with a 5.8 magnitude that caused millions of dollars worth of damage. It was not until after this earthquake that many people found out that their insurance policies did not cover earthquake damage. As a result, Senator Bryce Reeves filed a bill that requires insurance companies to tell customers if their insurance policies include earthquake coverage. If they do not, then they would have to provide information on where customers could buy this coverage. The state Senate passed this bill which did have some opposition from insurance companies and it will now go to the House of Delegates.
