With technology advancing more and more with each day that passes, should we be surprised that a cell phone may keep you off the road after you’ve been drinking?  Clay Bradley, the inventor of the BreathalEyes iPhone app, created this useful tool as a way to “help determine whether they’ve had too much to drink to drive.”

The app uses the phone’s camera to scan the person’s eyes and perform a test on the “horizontal gaze nystagmus,” which is the involuntary eye jerking  that happens to someone who is intoxicated.  With this, the app can decipher the person’s blood-alcohol content before they step into a car. Drinking and driving is the reason for auto insurance rates to increase, and more importantly, for accidents to occur. Bradley does not want people to rely on this application to directly tell them whether or not they are safe to drive, but wants this app to help people make smarter choices before getting behind the wheel.
